WELCOME FROM THE BAND BOOSTER OFFICERS!

The Murray County High School Band Boosters would like to welcome you to the MCHS Marching Indians! Our band students work hard to make each season a success and have fun doing it. We would like to take a moment and give you an outline of what you can expect for the upcoming school year.

The marching band uniform, hanger, and bag will be provided to you at no charge. This includes the bibbers (pants), jacket, shako (hat) and plume, and black gloves. The uniforms will be freshly cleaned at the time of uniform fitting on July 23. A current themed T-shirt will also be provided to each member for Pep Rallies, Game Days, and performances (worn under the uniform).

Marching shoes and socks are the responsibility of each band member. Black socks can be purchased at local stores and must be crew length or longer (no ankle socks with the uniform!). The shoes must be purchased through Custom Market Group, the vendor who will come out on July 29 and measure each student for correct fit and comfort. The shoes need to be paid for at the time of fitting; the prices range from $27 to $35 depending on the student’s section. Because of the need for uniformity, shoes must be purchased from our designated vendor.

Accidents will happen and students will misplace things; Mr. Weaver, our director, will have a supply of extra gloves and socks which can be purchased as needed. Extra gloves and socks are $3.00 per pair. Mr. Weaver also keeps a supply of reeds and valve oil.

As with other activities, expenses are involved when transporting students to games and competitions. We have established a fair amount for band fees to help offset these expenses. The 2010-2011 band fees are set at $300 for the year. This may seem high at first glance, but this amount is actually very modest in comparison to other schools with programs with similar breadth and depth as ours.

We have also set up a series of significant discounts for early payment to help lower expenses:

Paid before June 1st, your band fee will only be $195.00 (must be paid in full)
Paid before July 1st, your band fee will only be $210.00 (must be paid in full)
Paid by the end of band camp (Aug 6th) band fee will be $225.00 (must be paid in full)
Paid before September 1st, your band fee will be $250.00 (must be paid in full)
Paid before November 1st, your band fee will be $275.00 (must be paid in full)
Paid after November 1st, your band fee will be $300.00 (all fees must be paid by the end of the school term to avoid holding of academic records/report cards/transcripts)

For your convenience, the MCHS Band Booster Club is equipped to accept credit and debit cards for all band related expenses (minimum transaction value of $5.00).

If you need assistance because of financial difficulties and would like to set up your band fees on payments, please contact our student accounts treasurer, Melinda Kinsey. She will be happy to help you work out a plan which best fits your situation.

The Band Booster Club operates many fundraisers throughout the year. Many of these will be outlined at Orientation; these fundraising programs are allocated for student accounts, which means that the profit from these programs will be banked into the participating student’s student account. This allows families to accumulate monies to pay for band fees, trips, and supplies. You will also have the opportunity to volunteer in the concession stand for home games. When you work for the entire game, you will receive a voucher for $10 to go into your child’s account. You will be able to earn up to $50 by just working the concessions at the home games. There will be many opportunities throughout the year to add to your account.

Students are encouraged to participate in all fundraisers hosted by the band. When we host a general fundraiser, those funds will be used for transportation, competition fees, and snacks for the band members, etc. It really takes a lot of money to fund a band program and with the current budget cuts, we would rather fundraise than cut our program. Therefore, we need everyone’s help and support!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact one of our board members to assist you. Their email addresses are posted on our website: www.murraycountyband.net.

ELECTRONIC MAILING LIST
In an effort to reduce the cost of both paper and postage and to better inform parents,
we will be sending all communications via e-mail. A list of email addresses will be used to send out news items, last minute changes, urgent needs, request for feedback and newsletters. These methods provide better and lower cost communications than sending notes with students or mailing newsletters. Please notify us if you will require paper communications. (See volunteer form on page 16.)
