PREPARING
FOR FESTIVAL/COMPETITION
|
- Be
at the school at the time assigned by Mr. Weaver. It
is very important that we leave in time to allow us
to park, unload equipment, change clothes, and warm-up
prior to our performance time.
- Awards
generally start around 9:30-10:00 p.m. The band stays
until the end of the awards ceremony. Remember as with
any trip, when we return to the school, we will be responsible
for unloading ALL equipment and cleaning up our buses
and the band room before ANY student is allowed to leave
the school.
- Unless
otherwise directed, students are to sit together in
the stands while they are not performing. Chaperones
and staff will help to designate seats for you. If your
parents want to sit with you, that is wonderful, but
please remain near the rest of the group.
- Please
dress appropriately for the weather. It may be warm
in the morning when we leave, but once it is dark, the
temperatures cool significantly. You may want to dress
in layers so you can add and remove clothing as necessary.
You may wish to bring a hat and gloves, and/or a small
blanket or throw to use in the stands and on the bus
for the return trip.
- The
Band Boosters will provide one meal. Please be sure
and bring you some snacks for the trip. You will need
to bring money for other drinks and food. Remember that
available foods and drinks will be at Concession stand
prices. Be sure that you bring enough money for yourself.
-
Some festivals require that you order your picture the
day of the festival; some have order forms in the Programs.
The cost is generally between $12.00-$20.00.
- Generally,
Programs, T-shirts, buttons, and videotapes are available
for sale if you would like to purchase these items.
Program cost is about $5.00, T-shirts $15.00, Sweatshirts
(if available) $20.00, buttons $2.00-$3.00 and videotapes
$15.00. These prices are estimates only; actual prices
are set by the group hosting the event.
- Each
bus will have 6 chaperones and at least 1 instructor.
If you become ill, injured, or have any other needs,
please let one of these people know. If you lose your
money or do not have enough money for food and drinks,
please let one of the chaperones or instructors know.
We are there to see that you are all safe, have your
needs met, and have a good time.
- No
students are allowed to return to the buses without
permission and adult supervision. You will be expected
to stay together in small groups. Two is not a group.
- Parents
are welcomed and encouraged to attend and support our
band. Be prepared to pay for admission (generally about
$5.00 per person) to these events. Chaperones are usually
arranged in advance.
-
Be ready to have a good time! Festivals and competitions
are long days, but are some of the most enjoyable events
that we have all year.

"Finally,
brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and
if anything worthy of praise,
dwell on these things." -Paul of Tarsus
